Genotyping: Quality control and verification of contaminants.

The genotyping methodology for microorganisms starts with the extraction of DNA directly from isolated colonies followed by the amplification of nucleic acids (PCR) from conserved regions of DNA between microorganisms.

The PCR product (amplicon) is sequenced and the result compared in genomic banks giving a fast and reliable result.


Chapter 1113 of the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) recommends that research down to the species level be carried out by molecular genotyping .
